Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker variations. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better starts like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A sequence of betting ensues in which players can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. A further sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where many players get baffled. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
