Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.
Omaha/8 starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A sequence of betting follows where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of wagering happens. After all the players have either called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will have to put together the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a few entrants get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to use precisely three cards from the board, and exactly 2 cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same notion in almost all poker games.
The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the higher hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem complicated at the outset, following a couple of hands you will be able to get the base nuances of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 offers an exciting range of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have several individuals battling for the high hand, and many shooting for the low hand.
