Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha/8 begins just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting ensues where players can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is known as the flop. One more round of wagering happens. Once all the players have either called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of wagering ensues and then the river card is flipped. The entrants will have to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where some players can get confused. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must utilize precisely three cards from the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same approach in nearly every poker game.
A lower hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand wins the whole pot.
Although it seems complex at first, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of play easily enough. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha hi low offers an exciting assortment of wagering possibilities and because you have many individuals battling for the high, as well as many battling for the low.
